Went to GOTG again, but at a better time of day...

So I went back to Garden of the Gods for another photo of my car. This time it was in the morning, at a better time of day, when the light was right. I wish there had been snow on Pike's Peak with white puffy clouds, but it's Summer now. It was still a nice day!

Finally got a decent photo of my car...

I finally have had a day (Labor Day!) to get my car up to the Garden of the Gods park here in Colorado Springs. I missed the proper time of day for a good shot with Pike's Peak in the background, that's the morning. I'll give it a shot next weekend before the touristas hit the park or the Visitor's Center.

Lost my Speedo & Odo

Driving home from Fort Collins, CO today I lost my speedometer and odometer. It turned out to be a bad lower speedo cable. Many thanks to my friend Dan Haney who stopped by to inspect my speedo system and identify the problem.

The car is finally back from Haglin!

It was a lonely 3 weeks without my car, but well worth it. My repairs/upgrades were:

1) Adjustable control arms (rear) - with the lowered suspension I have, adjustable control arms make proper alignment possible. They don't come stock on the Delorean so they had to be machined from my originals.

2) Axle seal replacement - I had an axle seal leaking that was losing differential lubricant, so this was a major preventative maintenance item.

3) Fuel pump upgrade - this was the original reason I took the car to Haglin in the first place because my stock pump kept dying on me when it was hot. I haven't had a hot day to test it yet but I'm confident it will perform better than the original.

4) Fuel pump cover/boot - Haglin installed an upgraded cover/boot over the fuel pump, far better than the OEM one. This now prevents water from the front wheels from getting on top of the fuel pump and corroding it. Haglin also eliminated the fuel smell I was having when the car was parked.

5) A/T gasket - my auto tranmission had a slight leak, and it turned out to just be the gasket. Thank Heaven it wasn't worse!

6) Throttle plates weren't adjusted properly when closed...it's fixed now.

My car no longer surges during warm-up like it did (it's much less pronounced) so I think the car is about as close to running perfectly as it's going to get at my altitude. It's quite an enjoyable car.

Well, while my Delorean is at the shop...

...I'd thought I'd post a photo of one of my other cars, my Sequoia. It's one of the few vehicles that can tow another car, and that's proven to be useful in getting my Delorean to Haglin Automotive in Boulder. Who says SUVs are bad? I took a couple of hours today to hand-wash my Sequoia. When I'm not driving my Delorean, I drive this to work. I don't actually use much fuel as my commute to work is only 15 minutes or so each way, so it's a fairly economical way to commute.

While my car is being worked on...

I read this story on a Delorean website this weekend. It's not my story, but fascinating nonetheless...

I was sitting at my computer reading stuff on ****.com when I hear tires squealing outside my house, so I immediately look out my window and see this black chevy pickup with a U-haul backing up my driveway. When they finally stopped, I saw two rednecks get out and open up the back of the U-haul, it looked like it had a couple pieces of wood in the back and maybe a shovel, but that was it. Then they turned around and walked toward the delorean and then just stood there making stupid comments. Then out of nowhere, one of the hillbilly's pulls out one of those Styrofoam to-go-boxes that you get at restaurants and starts eating buffalo wings on top of my car like its some sort of oven. The other guy pulled the door handle but it was locked. As furious as I was, I continued to watch them from my window but after one guy tried to open my garage door ( he actually ended up locking it ) and never bothering to come knock on the front door or anything, I called the cops.

Successful trailer to Erie, CO

So I trailered my Delorean to a mechanic near Boulder, CO today. I missed paying only one day of trailer rental by 90 minutes (I had to pay for 2 days instead of one). It was interesting, to say the least, to trailer a car in Denver, CO on a Saturday....tailgaters and other idiots just amaze me.
